Empirical Implementation of the Steinmetz Equation to Compute Eddy Current Loss in Soft Magnetic Composite Components

Finite element analysis of magnetic materials allows accurate prediction losses and is crucial in the design electromagnetic devices products. Soft composites are an alternative to silicon steel laminations, yet material properties less well documented include uncertainties which can lead inaccurate iron Joule loss computations. The microstructure soft composites, based on ferromagnetic particles coated by inorganic resistive insulation, makes process unique. Composite core require further attention engineers terms effect component size pressing processes predictions, for laminations uses well-known Steinmetz law. This study accesses existing composite modelling trends using experimentally measured results. challenges estimating coefficients via curve fitting approaches discussed. indicates that components need be treated differently laminated cores. Modelling finite software requires informed models able accurately compute power under varying flux density electrical frequency. An approach suggested predict within 7%, but only validated cross sectional areas 144 mm 2 or less.
